Water Skills Awards add new dimensions to aquatic fun by teaching confidence, versatility and endurance skills. All ten skills in each Water Skill must be attempted, but pupils need only pass eight. Pupils with a disability may take on eight skills and will need to pass six. Swimmers who successfully complete the final level, Water Skills 6, should be able to swim 75 metres within two minutes using three different strokes.
The six Water Skills are represented by six colour-coded certificates and accompanying badges. Water Skills 1-4 complement Stages 1-7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework, and Water Skills 5-6 complement Stages 8-10.
